Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures. |
Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly. |
Assists in filling prescriptions. |
Processes records of medications and supplies dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges and either enters them into the computer or forwards them to Information Systems. |
Prepares select reports and MARs. |
Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies. |
Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities. |
Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Must be able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, and know to consult with the Pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise. |
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. |
Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner. |
Recognizes inappropriate dosing based on available dosage forms for various age groups. |
Ensures compliance with USP <797>. |
Must complete and pass Benefis Technician program within one year of start of employment required. |
Low-risk compounding: The applicable media-fill test will be performed and passed annually, after the initial training and media-fill test is completed and passed. |
Medium-risk compounding: The applicable media-fill test will be performed and passed annually, after the initial training and media-fill test is completed and passed. |
High-risk compounding: The applicable media-fill test will be performed and passed semi-annually, after the initial training and media-fill test is completed and passed. |
Interviews patients to obtain medication histories on admission and enters in "E.H.R." for review by pharmacist after initial training and demonstration of ability to perform work independently. |
Coordinates and completes preauthorization of medications in outpatient arena in coordination with Provider, Nursing, Pharmacists and patients after initial training and demonstration of ability to perform work independently. |
Procures and distributes medication orders per pharmacist request and fills medication kits (anesthesia trays, RSI kits) heart carts, crash carts, Automatic Dispensing Machine out of stocks. |
Prepares starter packs for the ER, medications for cart fill, and completes routine Automatic Dispensing Machine fill |
Compounds other extemporaneous medications as requested. |
Delivers medications to patient areas as needed. |
Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date and identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications. |
Picks up requisitions and returned medications from patient care areas when on delivery rounds. |
Performs unit inspections. |
Administrative functions including answering the telephone and door. |
Borrows and lends medications correctly. |
Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required. |
Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filing various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly populations. |
Demonstrates ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral and diagram form. |
Demonstrates knowledge and skill ensuring that pharmaceutical preparations are sterile, properly packaged, labeled and stored, and not outdated. |
